The Board of Directors for the South Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is lead by an Executive Committee.  This group of dedicated volunteers demonstrates their passion for the fight to beat breast cancer with their leadership and service.

President
Dave Ragsdale

Dave’s involvement with the Affiliate dates back to the first Race back in 1991. As a local runner, Dave and his wife, Molly, ran in the Race every year. His volunteering with the Affiliate began in 2002 as a Race course consultant. From there, Dave headed up the Site Operations team for several years before serving as the first-ever Male Co-Chair in 2005 and Race Chair in 2006. That year, the Race broke through the $1 Million mark for the first time. Since then, Dave’s voice can be heard on Race Day down at the start line organizing the event and encouraging all the participants.

Dave travels all over the U.S. announcing triathlons and running races and is the Associate Publisher of Competitor Magazine. He is a 1978 graduate of Colgate University.

Mary has a longtime record for community volunteer service. Her commitment to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® began in 1990 during the first organizational planning for the South Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the first Komen for the Cure and Race for the Cure presence in Florida. Mary was a founding Board of Directors member and remains the only continuing member of the original founding board. Since serving as Co-Chair of the Komen South Florida Race for the Cure in 2000-2001, she has served as 2002 Race Chair, 2003 Consulting Chair, and has continued each year to serve as Race Advisor and member of the Race Planning Committee, working year round.

She has special interest and experience with community and corporate relationships, fundraising, media outreach, and ongoing creative strategies. (Note: Mary’s 2002 Race Chair description, “No Better Place,” is re-printed with her permission on this website).

Member At Large
Elizabeth DeWoody

Elizabeth credits her early breast cancer diagnosis to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®. She volunteered for the Komen South Florida Race for the Cure in 2004 as the Food and Beverage Chair and was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in 2005. She is forever grateful to Susan G. Komen for making her aware that her family history dictated that she should ask for a mammogram at age 38 versus 40. Due to her diagnosis through early detection, she will live a long healthy life with her husband and two children. Elizabeth was honored to serve as Race Chair in 2007 and help the Affiliate raise $1.7 million dollars to raise awareness locally and assure that we eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease. She has been volunteering for the Affiliate as a Board Member for the past four years. Elizabeth currently sits on the Grants Committee and is Co-Chair of the Development Committee.

Prior to her volunteer work, Elizabeth worked in Sales Management and Marketing with Procter and Gamble Distributing Company and Vistakon Inc, Johnson and Johnson. She holds a BS in Marketing from Florida State University and MBA from University of Miami.
