The next Worship in Pink Weekend (formerly called “Pink Sunday”) is set for May 9 -11, 2008. The weekend is a great opportunity to celebrate breast cancer survivors, honor those who have lost the battle, and educate the congregations about breast health and breast cancer. Working with churches, synagogues and mosques to educate, honor and celebrate, the Komen South Florida affiliate provides:
- Free breast health packets to each participating organization.
- A 2-4 minute sample script about breast health for a representative from the participating place of worship to read at the end of their service.
- Lots of ideas and suggestions to individualize your program.

Sunny 104.3 FM Morning Show personality, Michelle Visage will host “Pretty in the City,” a girls-night-out event to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure - South Florida Affiliate. The girls-only event will feature live entertainment from world-famous Rod Stewart impersonator, “Hot Rod;” a fashion show; spa and makeup treatments; and a silent auction including furniture provided by El Dorado. The event is $3 at the door and includes a free drink at the Club Safari after party.
November 21 - 25, 2007 - Swim & Racquet Center in Boca Raton
Each year each the tournament draws the area's best players, combined with talented players from Europe, Asia, South America, Morocco, Russia and many other countries compete in each of these events. Many of the tournament's past winners have gone on to have successful professional careers. Past winners include Ivan Baron (once ranked as high as 200) and Vince Spadea (currently ranked amongst the world's top fifty). Gael Monfils was a finalist only five years ago. In addition Carling Basset and Harold Solomon have participated. And, in 1997 a talented local boy named Andy Roddick even played! There is also a NTRP adult division as well.
The draw is stock full of talented international players who hope to become the next rising star on the ATP circuit. The draw boasts at least 20 players with current ATP Tour rankings as well as top ranked juniors and a few players who once held a spot in the world rankings.
Admission is free, but the event benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure through silent auction, chance drawing, sales of pink ribbon and autographed items.

Start collecting your pink Yoplait lids. For every lid mailed by December 31, 2007, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to Komen with a minimum guarantee of $500,000. Lids will be tracked by zip code on the return address and distributed to the local affiliate. Mail your lids yourself or put them in the drop off boxes at any of our grantees or at our office.

A panel of experts will address different topics surrounding breast cancer, including the importance of regular screenings, genetic screenings, what is involved with breast surgery, and reconstruction options. Cold Water Creek will donate $1 to the Komen South Florida Affiliate for every shopper who tries on pants in the dressing room. No purchase is necessary. How good is that?? If you go into the store on October 10th you will see all the employees wearing pink t-shirts. Check out their new line of pants.

Bailey, Banks & Biddle is celebrating Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s 25th Anniversary with an exclusive bracelet designed by Laura Gibson. Twenty-five dollars from each one hundred and twenty-five dollar bracelet sold will go to Komen. So far, $29,000 has been donated from bracelet sales. The bracelet is available for sale at the stores at Wellington Green and at Gardens Mall. The bracelet is beautiful and will be a great addition to your wardrobe. Think about shopping early for the upcoming holidays or indulge yourself. Bailey, Banks & Biddle has a phenomenal inventory of other jewelry which you really must see.
Couture Optique held a summer evening of festivities including live music, food, wine and chance drawings for great prizes with ten percent (10%) of the proceeds from any sales that evening going to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Palm Beach Illustrated was there taking pictures of the throng of people that gathered to support breast cancer and the Palm Beach Eyewear store that has opened its second location at downtown at the Gardens.
Month of October
Komen is challenging organizations large and small to help spread breast cancer awareness. The premise is simple: change your clothes to change the world. Each organization that wants to participate picks a day in October to wear pink and donate $5 or more. In addition to picking their pink, groups are encouraged to be creative and to make Passionately Pink for the Cure a fun and educational day for all. Groups can incorporate activities, contests, guest speakers and ways to honor and remember breast cancer survivors.
Your company or office can register at www.passionatelypink.org. You will receive a participation kit with posters, educational materials and pins for your participants.
Kick-Off Party - October 18, 2007 - Saks Fifth Avenue, Palm Beach
Come shop until you drop at Saks on Worth Avenue. Kick-off party will include cocktails, fabulous hors d’oeuvres from Palm Beaches finest restaurants, , and entertainment. Saks is donating 2% of sales from the evening of October 18 through Saturday, October 20 at closing. Cost of kick-off event: $25. Let's Eat! is teaming up with Komen for the Cure for its Grand Opening. Let's Eat! is a gourmet meal assembly store that allows customers to make their own meals with the provided ingredients and directions. Let's Eat! is allowing customers to order one entrée, which is large enough to feed 4-6 people, for $25 and two entrees for $40. During this two day event 50% of your order amount will be donated to Komen for the Cure!
